Psychosocial supports available to PHC staff and medical staff

Providence’s care providers are at the forefront of dual health crises; the COVID-19 pandemic, and the opioid-overdose crisis in Vancouver.

These are extraordinary circumstances, with staff in every part of the organization working hard to keep the lights on. Many of you are on the front lines for providing care, feeling emotionally and physically drained yourselves as you continue to provide support and solace to patients and their friends and families, while helping fight the stigma around the disease of addiction.

While you show compassion to those you care for, it is crucial that you have the resources and supports you need to get through this crisis. Be kind to yourselves; be kind to each other; and most importantly, if you need help, please reach out.

Psychosocial supports available to PHC staff and medical staff:

  • Employee & Family Assistance Program (EFAP) is offering staff and leaders 24/7 confidential crisis call support (or simply to talk) and onsite urgent critical incident stress debriefings (two hours of notice is needed to allow EFAP time to access site/staff). Visit homeweb.ca (use invite code: PHC578) or call 1-800-663-1142.
  • Physician health program of BC offers a help line 24/7 at 1-800-663-6729 or physicianhealth.com.
  • Spiritual Care - You can leave a message at local 68163 for non-urgent support. If there is a crisis/emergent situation, staff can also use the on-call pager (33311 or 604-258-3311).
